India’s East Bengal Club clinched the title of the first-ever South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Club Championship, defeating Nepal’s APF Club 3–0 in the final held today at Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar.
East Bengal captain Fazila Equabal led the team to victory with two goals, while Shilkidevi Hanam added one. Equabal opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after a defensive miscommunication between Nepal’s goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar and defender Geeta Rana, allowing her to capitalize on the opportunity.
East Bengal doubled their lead in the 35th minute when Shilkidevi scored with a header off a cross from Asha Lata following a corner taken by Sarita Yumnam.
Early in the second half, East Bengal extended their lead to 3–0, with captain Equabal scoring her second goal of the match, effectively sealing the win. No further goals were added, and the Indian side ultimately secured a comfortable victory over APF.
The championship, held from December 5, featured clubs from five South Asian nations. Along with finalists East Bengal and APF, the competition included Karachi City FC from Pakistan, Nasir Sports Academy from Bangladesh, and Transport United from Bhutan.
