Lumbini Lions clinched the title of the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), defeating Sudurpaschim Royals by six wickets in the final played at the TU International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur on Saturday.
Sudurpaschim Royals, who were runners-up in the inaugural edition of the NPL, once again finished second. In the first edition final, they had lost to Janakpur Bolts. With the victory, Lumbini Lions secured a cash prize of Rs 11 million, while runners-up Sudurpaschim Royals received Rs 5.1 million.
Chasing a modest target of 86 runs, Lumbini reached the target in just nine overs, losing four wickets. Dinesh Adhikari top-scored for Lumbini with a blistering 42 runs off 13 balls, hitting one four and five sixes. D’Arcy Short added 14 runs off 13 balls with three fours, while captain Rohit Paudel scored 16 runs off 12 balls, including two fours and a six. Niroshan Dickwella remained unbeaten on 11 runs, while Sandip Jora was dismissed for a duck.
For Sudurpaschim, Hemanta Dhami took two wickets, while Avinash Bohara and Dipendra Singh Airee claimed one wicket each. Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sudurpaschim Royals were bowled out for 85 runs in 19.1 overs.
Ishan Pandey was the top scorer with 33 runs off 51 balls, including one four. Captain Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 13 runs, while Harmit Singh and Scott Kuggeleijn scored 10 runs each. The remaining batters failed to reach double figures.
Lumbini’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Sher Malla, Ruben Trumpelmann, and captain Rohit Paudel taking three wickets each, while Tika Bhandari picked up one wicket.
Rohit Paudel Wins Player of the Tournament Award
Lumbini Lions captain Rohit Kumar Paudel was named Player of the Tournament in the second season of the NPL and was awarded a car for his outstanding all-around performance.
Rohit finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament with 276 runs, making him the highest run-scoring Nepali player in this edition. Binod Bhandari followed among Nepali players with 264 runs. Rohit also claimed 10 wickets during the tournament.
He was additionally named Best Batter of the Tournament and received a Pulsar motorcycle after being adjudged the Emerging Player of the Tournament.
Sandip Lamichhane and Avinash Bohara jointly topped the wicket-taking charts with 17 wickets each. Lamichhane was named Best Bowler, while Bohara received the Red Bull Player of the Tournament award. Both were awarded motorcycles.
Similarly, Ruben Trumpelmann was declared Best Player of the Tournament and received a cash prize of Rs 500,000. Tilakraj Bhandari of Lumbini Lions was named the Energetic Player of the Tournament, while Sher Malla, also from Lumbini, was declared the Emerging Player and awarded a motorcycle.
The awards were presented by Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel and Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) President Chatur Bahadur Chand, among others.
