The government has decided to award former marathon runner and Olympian Jit Bahadur KC a cash prize of Rs 2.5 million. KC is the first Nepali athlete to win an international medal.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology and government spokesperson Jagadish Kharel shared the decision while briefing the media on the outcomes of the Council of Ministers meeting held on Monday.
KC had won a bronze medal at the first Asian Athletics Championship held in Manila, the Philippines, in 1973.
In other decisions, the Cabinet resolved to list the Mehelkuna–Khatang–Ghumkhare triangular suspension bridge project in Surkhet as a project of national priority.
The meeting also approved prior permission to conduct an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and its subordinate bodies.
Similarly, the Cabinet decided to form an investigation commission under the leadership of Deepak Subedi, with Sharad Adhikari and Yogendranath Karmacharya as members, to investigate the enforcement of Supreme Court orders related to the transport sector.
The Cabinet further decided to transfer three colonels of the Nepal Army, extend the tenure of one brigadier general, and grant a special promotion to another brigadier general to the rank of major general.
A decision was also made to approve the organizational structure and staffing of the Office of the Auditor General and its subordinate bodies.
Likewise, the Cabinet approved the promotion of Joint Secretary Rajendra Kumar Paudel to the vacant Secretary post in the gazetted special category under the Nepal Administration Service group and appointed him as Chief Secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Koshi Province.
The meeting also approved the nomination of Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, as a candidate for the post of ninth General Secretary of the Colombo Plan.
As per another Cabinet decision, the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement with Mauritius has been terminated.
The Cabinet granted permission to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to establish the Irrigation Management Company Limited and approved the transfer of four Joint Secretaries from the Nepal Judicial Service, Judicial Group.
It was also decided to grant approval to conduct an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and its subordinate bodies.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the participation of Secretary Dr Deepak Kumar Kharal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development in a programme scheduled to be held in Thimphu, Bhutan, on December 15–16.
