More than 553,000 people have left the Kathmandu Valley for their hometowns to celebrate the Dashain festival, while around 285,000 people have entered the Valley during the same period, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
From Ghatasthapana (September 22), the first day of the 15-day Dashain festival, until this morning, a total of 553,261 people departed the Valley, while 285,308 individuals entered through 72,041 vehicles.
Senior Superintendent of Police Navaraj Adhikari, Chief of the Valley Traffic Police, said that additional police personnel have been deployed at key checkpoints and parking areas to manage the heavy movement of people.
“For the ease and safety of travelers, help desks, vehicle monitoring teams, and emergency rescue squads have been mobilized. Traffic police are on duty 24 hours a day to ensure smooth travel,” Adhikari said.
Authorities expect the outflow to continue rising until the Fulpati and Tika days, when the Dashain celebrations peak.
