Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane held a high-level meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday as part of his ongoing five-day visit to India.
Lamichhane is visiting India at the invitation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin. He departed Nepal for India on Monday.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction over the engagement with the RSP leader through a post on the social media platform X.
“Delighted to meet the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party of Nepal, Mr. Rabi Lamichhane. I welcome and fully share his desire to work closely together for a shared and prosperous future,” Modi wrote.
Highlighting Nepal’s importance in India’s foreign policy, the Indian Prime Minister stated that Nepal remains a priority partner under India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy.
“Nepal is a priority partner under our Neighbourhood First policy, and we look forward to collaborating with the new government to elevate the special and multifaceted relationship between our two countries to greater heights,” Modi added.
According to sources, the meeting focused on Nepal–India bilateral relations, cooperation between the RSP and BJP, areas of mutual interest, and broader regional and diplomatic issues.
Senior Indian officials attending the meeting included External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
On the Nepali side, Lamichhane was accompanied by his spouse Nikita Paudel, RSP leaders Bipin Acharya and Deepak Bohara, as well as senior officials from the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.
Earlier on Tuesday, Lamichhane held separate meetings with Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister Dr. Jaishankar, BJP President Nitin Nabin, and other senior Indian officials as part of his diplomatic engagements during the visit.
