Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged all political parties to actively participate in the election process ahead of the March 5 House of Representatives (HoR) elections, assuring that the government is committed to ensuring a fully secure environment for the polls.
At a meeting held today at Singha Durbar with the Election Commission, political parties, Gen-Z representatives, and other stakeholders, Prime Minister Karki said that unified political collaboration would prevent any undesirable elements from disrupting peace and order.
“Many are concerned about election security. The government is working to ensure a completely secure environment. If all political parties move forward together, no one will be able to disturb law and order,” she stated.
Calling on the parties that have decided not to participate in the polls, Prime Minister Karki insisted that taking part in the election is crucial for safeguarding peace and democracy. She added that if all 114 registered political parties unite, there would be no possibility of unrest.
She also appealed to Gen-Z groups, civil society, media, and civil servants to support efforts to maintain peace and stability.
“Let us not let anger push the country into difficulty,” she said. “Let us participate in the election by utilizing the time we have.”
Reflecting on the incidents of September 8 and 9, Karki said they were a result of past mistakes, and the government is now confronting the emotions and criticisms that emerged from those events. Acknowledging the deep public impact of the unrest, she stressed the need for political actors to carefully consider the messages they convey.
“Understanding the change demanded by the young generation is the top priority right now. People want change, and political parties must correct themselves,” she emphasized.
Prime Minister Karki further noted, “We have become the object of criticism, but we are ready to bear it for the country. We must all set aside our personal interests to maintain peace and stability—this is in the interest of the nation and all of us.”
