Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the government wants to see young people emerge as responsible political leaders capable of guiding the nation’s future.
Speaking at a post-agreement signing ceremony between the government and Gen Z representatives at the Office of the Prime Minister late Monday evening, PM Karki said, “May all youths stay in the country, explore opportunities, and engage in productive employment. May they become good politicians and lead the nation forward. But a single document alone cannot fulfil every aspiration.”
She informed that the consensus document signed with the Gen Z movement would be published in the national gazette and institutionalized as a historic milestone.
During the ceremony, some Gen Z representatives expressed reservations about the compact.
Earlier in the evening, the government and Gen Z leaders signed a 10-point agreement at Singha Durbar. Prime Minister Karki and Bhoj Bikram Thapa, representing those killed or injured during the Gen Z movement, signed the pact.
Following the signing, PM Karki said the agreement would serve as a turning point in the country’s political transformation. “This agreement will guide tomorrow’s wave for change,” she said. “It will help strengthen the constitution and prevent future violence and instability. We are the same group-Gen Zs are like my children-and we want the youth to rise to state leadership. Their ideas should shape future state policies.”
The agreement includes commitments related to good governance, constitutional amendment, and electoral reform, reflecting the demands of the Gen Z movement held on September 8–9.
Government ministers, the chief secretary, and senior officials were present at the event.
