Nepali citizens can now register their names in the voter list online using their National Identity Card, making the process easier and eliminating the need to visit the Election Commission office for biometric records.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki, in a post on her social media platform today, announced the launch of this new digital service, calling it a significant step toward modernising Nepal’s electoral system. She said the self-service portal will enable eligible citizens to fill out and submit their voter registration forms online.
According to the government, the registration process will take place in four phases:
Phase One: Integration of National Identity Card details with the voter identity database.
Phase Two: Verification and correction of personal information.
Phase Three: Uploading necessary documents for changes in voting centre, new residence, or marital status.
Phase Four: Final submission of the completed voter registration form online.
Officials say the system aims to reduce crowds at government offices, minimise errors, and ensure faster updates to the national voter list.
The Election Commission is preparing technical infrastructure to handle a large number of applications as the service rolls out nationwide.
