The government has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assign Nepal’s ambassadors from 11 countries, who were recently recalled, to work at the Ministry itself.
The move follows the Supreme Court’s interim order issued on Sunday, which temporarily halted the government’s earlier decision to recall the ambassadors.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a letter from the government was received on Monday instructing that all 11 ambassadors be called back to the Ministry.
“The government’s correspondence arrived on Monday, asking the Ministry to summon the ambassadors to Kathmandu,” said Ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on October 16 decided to recall, by November 6, 11 ambassadors appointed on political grounds.
However, a writ petition filed at the Supreme Court challenged the legality of the decision, arguing it violated due process. Following a preliminary hearing, the Court on Sunday issued an interim order instructing the government not to implement the recall until further notice.
