The government, mandated to conduct the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election on March 5, has announced that it will hold a joint dialogue with political parties and Gen Z representatives this Wednesday.
According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gagdish Kharel, the meeting will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar. It will mark the first formal encounter between political parties and Gen Z youth leaders since the September 8–9 protest, which led to the fall of the previous government, dissolution of the HoR, and formation of the current interim government.
Minister Kharel said the government is actively engaging with various stakeholders to ensure a smooth and credible election process. “The government is deeply focused on election preparation and is holding rigorous discussions with political parties and the Gen Z youths,” he noted.
Last week, Prime Minister Sushila Karki held discussions with seven major political parties, who expressed a positive outlook toward the upcoming election but raised concerns over the existing security situation and the need for a conducive environment for democratic participation.
The upcoming meeting is expected to help build consensus and trust among political forces and youth representatives, paving the way for a peaceful and inclusive electoral process.
Minister Kharel, who also serves as the government spokesperson, confirmed that the Election Commission has been consulted and preparations are being intensified “from all fronts” to ensure the successful conduct of the national poll.
