In a significant political move, Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday held a joint discussion with leaders of major political parties to create a conducive political environment for the upcoming March 5 election. This marks the first all-party interaction since the formation of the current government.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, brought together representatives of political parties that were represented in the recently dissolved House of Representatives (HoR).
According to PM Karki’s Press Coordinator, Ram Bahadur Rawal, the discussion focused on ensuring political stability, strengthening cooperation among parties, and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the election.
Leaders attending the meeting included Gagan Kumar Thapa and Prakash Sharan Mahat from the Nepali Congress; Shankar Pokharel and Pradip Gyawali from the CPN-UML; Barsha Man Pun and Pampha Bhusal from the CPN (Maoist Centre); Swarnim Wagle and Sobhita Gautam from the Rastriya Swatantra Party; Rajendra Pandey and Prakash Jwala from the CPN (Unified Socialist); Rajendra Gurung and Mohan Shrestha from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party; and Upendra Yadav and Prakash Adhikari from the Janata Samajbadi Party, among others.
On the government’s side, participants included Prime Minister Karki, Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Minister for Agriculture Dr Madan Pariyar, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Kagadish Kharel, and the PM’s Chief Advisor Ajay Bhadra Khanal.
The meeting reportedly reviewed the overall political climate and explored ways to ensure fair, inclusive, and credible elections. Party leaders were said to have expressed their concerns and suggestions on the upcoming polls and the broader democratic process.
Sources at Baluwatar said the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to conducting elections in a free and impartial manner, urging all political forces to cooperate in maintaining harmony and national unity.
