The government has declared the Ilam district a disaster-hit area following severe landslides and floods.
According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel, the decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Thursday at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.
Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) shows that 39 people lost their lives, one person went missing, and 26 others were injured in the recent natural disasters in Ilam. The floods and landslides also caused extensive damage to the district’s road networks and infrastructure.
In the same meeting, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) was approved to issue energy bonds worth Rs 20 billion to mobilize resources for hydropower project development.
The cabinet also decided to promote Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) Sushil Singh Rathore, Uma Prasad Chaturbedi, Himalaya Kumar Shrestha, and Dambar Bahadur Bishwokarma to the rank of Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police.
Similarly, the meeting resolved to dissolve the Land Problem Settlement Commission formed under the Land Problem Settlement Commission Formation Order, 2081 BS, along with its district committees.
Furthermore, the government has forwarded several high-level committee reports for implementation:
The report on land and movable assets registered under Tribhuvan University has been sent to the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
The report by the High-Level Study and Investigation Committee 2082 on issues related to immigration and visit visas has been forwarded to the Home Ministry.
The High-Level Study and Suggestion Committee’s report on civil aviation sector reforms has been sent to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation for necessary action.
Minister Kharel stated that the government is committed to swiftly implementing these recommendations to enhance efficiency and transparency in governance.
