Over 10,000 Foreign Tourists Visit Mustang in January
Nepal welcomed 92,573 foreign tourists in January 2026, marking a significant increase in tourist arrivals at the beginning of the year.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the number of foreign visitors in January rose by 15.7 percent compared to the same month in 2025.
Indian tourists topped the list of arrivals during the month. NTB data show that 26,624 tourists from India visited Nepal in January. Similarly, 9,101 tourists arrived from China, 8,406 from the United States, and 4,957 from Australia.
In terms of regional distribution, tourists from SAARC countries accounted for 39.3 percent of the total arrivals. Visitors from other Asian countries comprised 26.1 percent, followed by Europe (12.3 percent), the Americas (10.8 percent), and Oceania (5.7 percent).
The steady rise in arrivals reflects Nepal’s improving tourism recovery and growing appeal among regional and long-haul travelers, according to tourism officials.
Over 10,000 Foreign Tourists Visit Mustang in January
Tourist arrivals in Mustang increased significantly even during the winter season, with the district witnessing a sharp rise in foreign visitors in January compared to the same period last year.
According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) under the National Trust for Nature Conservation, a total of 10,822 foreign tourists visited Mustang in January 2026.
ACAP Mustang Chief Rajesh Gupta said that 10,045 tourists from SAARC countries visited the district during the month, while 777 tourists came from other countries.
In January 2025, only 4,346 foreign tourists had visited Mustang. This represents a year-on-year increase of 6,476 visitors, ACAP’s Jomsom office reported. Of the increased number, 3,830 were from SAARC countries, while 830 were from other nations.
Mustang received a total of 161,142 foreign tourists between January and December 2025, Gupta added. He noted that the number of Indian pilgrims visiting the Muktinath Temple has increased remarkably in recent months.
Based on the current trend, ACAP has estimated that around 200,000 foreign tourists will visit Mustang in 2026.
