Goods worth Rs 20.14 billion were imported through the Mechi Customs Office in Jhapa during the first five months of the current fiscal year.
According to Information Officer and Customs Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain, imports during the review period increased by 7.57 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year. In the first five months of the previous fiscal year, imports amounted to Rs 18.72 billion.
However, exports through the customs point saw a decline during the same period. Total exports stood at Rs 10.71 billion, compared to Rs 11.47 billion in the corresponding period last fiscal year.
Major export items from the Mechi Customs Office include cardamom, tea, plywood, veneer sheets, broom grass, ginger, and iron sheets. Similarly, key imported goods include petroleum products, readymade garments, vegetables, auto parts, cement clinker, cosmetics, coffee, plastic products, and footwear.
The office collected more than Rs 6.82 billion in revenue from imports and exports during the five months starting from Shrawan, officials said.
