In a remarkable recognition of Nepal’s growing scientific excellence, 31 Nepali scientists have been included in the global ranking of the world’s best scientists prepared by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.
According to Rabindra Dhakal, Secretary of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), the annual list is based on scientific citations and publications, highlighting researchers with the greatest global influence in their fields.
“Stanford University prepares this list every year, and this year, 31 Nepali scientists have been recognized for their global impact in research, innovation, and sustainability,” Secretary Dhakal shared.
Among the listed researchers, seven scientists are from Tribhuvan University (TU). At the same time, two each represent the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC), BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
From TU, the honorees include Ajaya Bhattarai, Ramesh Prasad Adhikari, Bhishma Karki, Niranjan Parajuli, Ram Prasad Sharma, and Govinda Prasad Dhungana, as well as Ranjit Kumar Shah from the TU Teaching Hospital.
Similarly, Sanjiv Kumar Sharma and Suman Rijal from BPKIHS, and Arun Bhakta Shrestha and Philip Wester from ICIMOD, have been featured in the ranking.
Other notable names include Dr. Niranjan Koirala from NAST, Shiva Prasad Pudasaini from the Institute of Complex Flows, Meghnath Dhimal from NHRC, and Chhabilal Ranabhat from the Global Centre for Research and Development.
The list also features Mark Jordans from the Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal, Santosh Nepal from the International Water Management Institute, Rajkumar Thapa from TU, and Hari (surname not mentioned) from Gandaki University.
Similarly, Peter R. Hobbes from CIMMYT, Surendra KC from the Global Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies, Sudankumar Jha from Kathmandu University, Randip Rakuwal and Ganesh Kumar Agrawal from Great Academy Pvt. Ltd., Sunil Kumar Shrestha from the Kathmandu Cancer Center, Bikas Baral from the Biotechnology Society of Nepal, Alok Atreya from Lumbini Medical College, Uttam Paudel from NNRS, Pukar Khanal from Silicon Script Science Pvt. Ltd., Suraj Bhattarai from the Global Health Research and Medical Intervention for Development, and Bipin Chaurasia from the College of Medical Sciences Nepal have also been recognized.
Secretary Dhakal remarked that the inclusion of these scientists signifies “outstanding international recognition of the capabilities and contributions of Nepali researchers”, reflecting Nepal’s growing presence in global scientific and academic circles.
