Investor Confidence Weakens After Gen-Z Movement: Governor Poudel

Thursday, 06 November 2025

Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Dr. Bishwanath Poudel has said that investors’ morale has declined since the September 8–9 Gen-Z movement that swept across the country.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Citizen Initiative on Wednesday, Governor Poudel remarked that although liquidity has been sufficient in the market for the past two years, investment expansion has remained sluggish. “The Gen-Z movement has further complicated the situation,” he said, pointing to the growing uncertainty in the business environment.

At the same event, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, stated that the movement turned violent due to “external infiltration,” leading to attacks on both private and government properties.

CPN (UML) Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali emphasized the need for “system-oriented reforms” rather than personality-driven politics, while Nepali Congress leader Pradeep Poudel admitted that his party must take responsibility, as it was leading the government during the unrest.

Attorney General Sabita Bhandari described the post-movement political situation as both “an opportunity and a challenge” for the government, urging for stability and institutional reform to rebuild investor confidence.
