More than 40,000 domestic and international tourists visited the Mustang district in the first 10 days of Kartik, marking a surge in tourist arrivals to the Himalayan region.
According to the District Police Office, Mustang, a total of 37,146 domestic and 3,732 foreign tourists entered the district via the Beni–Jomsom road section between October 18 and 27.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tshiring Kippa Lama informed that around 11,808 vehicles traveled into Mustang during this period.
However, the influx of visitors coincided with a bout of rainfall and heavy snowfall that began on Monday night, temporarily affecting tourists who had reached the area, particularly those on pilgrimage to the Muktinath Temple.
Officials from the Muktinath Mandir Development Committee reported that heavy snow along the Kagbeni–Muktinath route disrupted movement and that the Snankunda pond and 108 holy taps at Muktinath had frozen due to a sharp drop in temperature.
Despite the weather challenges, local authorities said tourism activities remain active as visitors continue to arrive to enjoy Mustang’s scenic beauty and cultural heritage.
