The First Tihar Flora Expo 2082 commenced today in Kathmandu, showcasing a vibrant array of flowers, fruits, agroforestry products, and nursery businesses. The Nursery Association Nepal organizes the five-day event.
Inaugurating the expo, Dr. Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, emphasized the need to prioritize the concerns of genuine and small-scale farmers in government policies. He underscored that ensuring sustainable markets for domestic agricultural products is more effective than relying solely on subsidies.
“Domestic agricultural production and natural security are our priorities. Our policies must be farmer-friendly. It is our responsibility to support small-scale farmers, minimize agricultural risks, and promote local produce,” Dr. Sharma said.
Vice President of the Association and event coordinator, Laxmi Maharjan, informed that the expo features over 700 varieties of nursery plants, along with stalls displaying fertilizers, seeds, agricultural tools, and technologies.
The event is expected to attract around 35,000 visitors and facilitate transactions worth over Rs 7 million, according to the organizers.
