Gen-Z Protests: Preliminary Report Reveals Massive Damages to Pokhara’s Tourism Sector

The Pokhara Tourism Council has submitted a preliminary report detailing the damages suffered by Pokhara’s tourism industry during the Gen-Z protests held on September 8 and 9.

A team led by Council Chair Taranath Pahari handed over the report to Gandaki Province Tourism Minister Mitralal Basyal on Monday. The report states that 10 hotels and business establishments in Pokhara incurred heavy financial losses during the protests.

According to the report, Hotel Sarovar suffered the highest loss, estimated at nearly Rs 1 billion, while Bagaincha Resort reported damages worth Rs 400 million. Similarly, Hotel Goodwill incurred losses of around Rs 200 million, Pokhara Events Centre sustained damages of Rs 195 million, Anshuberma Complex reported losses of Rs 80 million, Bar Pipal Resort incurred losses of Rs 30 million, and Hotel Adam Pvt Ltd incurred losses of Rs 10 million.

The report also mentioned damages to Hotel Landmark, Mantra Thakali, Community Service Centre in Baidam, and several other tourism-related establishments.

Expressing concern over the destruction caused just ahead of the tourism peak season, the Council urged stakeholders and authorities to take immediate action to protect and support the affected businesses.

The Council has also appealed to the government to revitalize the tourism sector by providing emergency loans and ensuring long-term solutions through fair compensation and recovery support for the damaged enterprises.
