Workers' remittances to Sri Lanka exceeded USD 5 billion in the first eight months of 2025, according to the latest report by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
The CBSL said that total remittance inflows reached USD 5.11 billion from January to August, representing a 19.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when the figure stood at USD 4.28 billion.
In August alone, remittances amounted to USD 680.8 million, the report stated.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s tourism sector also showed continued recovery. Official data indicated that earnings from tourism surpassed USD 2 billion during the January–July period of 2025, reflecting a 7.8% increase over the same period last year.
Workers' remittances and tourism earnings remain among Sri Lanka’s leading sources of foreign exchange, playing a critical role in the country’s economic stability.
