Hanumandhoka Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kathmandu, has recorded a significant rise in revenue collection, reaching Rs 194.6 million in the last fiscal year (2080/81 BS). This marks an increase of over Rs 20 million compared to the previous year’s collection of Rs 176.9 million.
According to Chandra Gopal Pradhan, Chief of the Hanumandhoka Durbar Square Conservation Programme, the primary source of income is the entrance fees collected from visiting tourists.
In the last fiscal year, the heritage site welcomed 50,533 tourists from SAARC countries and nearly 160,000 tourists from other nations.
Currently, the entrance fee for visitors from SAARC member states is Rs 500, while tourists from other countries are charged Rs 1,000. Although Nepali citizens are exempt from entrance fees, they are required to pay a separate fee to visit the museum inside the square.
The growing number of international visitors and the consistent conservation efforts have contributed to the steady rise in revenue, further supporting the preservation of one of Kathmandu’s most iconic historical sites.
