The Department of Passports will now issue passports within two working days, following the arrival of 396,000 new passport booklets for urgent distribution.
According to the department, passport issuance has resumed at full capacity. With the new supply, the department will personalize and dispatch passports for applicants from district and area administration offices as well as Nepali missions abroad.
Applicants who submitted their forms by December 1 will receive their passports by December 30, while others will be served gradually thereafter, the department said.
It clarified that passport distribution will now proceed smoothly after the temporary shortage was addressed. The government had earlier decided to procure 700,000 passport booklets as an interim measure to ease the demand.
