The government has expedited the classification process for individuals injured during the Gen-Z demonstrations of September 8 and 9. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the acceleration follows Cabinet procedures endorsed on December 8 to provide livelihood support and financial assistance based on the severity of disabilities sustained during the protests.
The Secretariat of Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal informed that District Administration Offices will recommend cases for classification, which will then be verified by the Ministry of Health and Population. A technical committee, led by the Health Ministry Secretary, will categorize the injured into four groups—minor, moderate, serious, and very serious.
As per the approved procedure, those with serious injuries will receive a monthly allowance of NPR 9,000, while individuals classified as very seriously injured will receive NPR 18,000. Persons with moderate injuries are entitled to a monthly allowance of NPR 4,000.
The Home Ministry stated that, under Minister Aryal’s directive, authorities have been instructed to fast-track the process to ensure that classifications reflect public expectations. The classification facilitation committee has confirmed that the work is progressing accordingly.
