The Department of Passports has announced that it will issue 1,000 passports per day, effective from today, except on public holidays.
In a notice released on Sunday, the Department informed service seekers that the distribution process has resumed on a daily basis to address growing demand and delays in recent weeks.
According to the Department, a new procurement agreement was signed in Saun with a new supplier for electronic passports (e-passports). As per the agreement, new infrastructure and systems are being installed to fully launch the new passport services by February 23, 2026.
The Department also acknowledged temporary distribution challenges due to the transition between the current and new suppliers, along with a limited stock of passport booklets and high public demand.
Authorities have urged applicants to apply only in urgent cases until the situation normalizes. The Department further cautioned the public not to rely on unauthorized intermediaries and to remain alert against possible fraudulent activities related to passport processing.
