Over 40 animal lovers, artists, and activists gathered in Kathmandu today for an art exhibition titled Nepal Vegan Gallery 2025, held to mark World Vegan Day.
The event, organized by Animal Save Nepal with support from Utpala Café and Thrive Philanthropy, took place in the tranquil surroundings of Utpala Café, Bouddha-one of the capital’s leading vegetarian venues.
The exhibition showcased more than 40 artworks exploring various dimensions of veganism-from the suffering of farmed and wild animals to the broader impacts of human activities and climate change. Each piece invited reflection and conversation about humanity’s relationship with animals and the planet.
The day-long celebration featured a blend of music, dance, live performances, and vegan food stalls, creating an atmosphere that merged creativity with compassion. Local vegan restaurants such as Loving Heart Vegan Restaurant, The White Lotus Vegan Café, and Vegan Food and Beverage House offered plant-based delicacies to attendees.
A highlight of the event was a panel discussion titled “Art & Activism”, which examined how artistic platforms can be used to promote compassion and animal rights.
Krishna Gurung, a graphic designer and musician known for his animal rights advocacy, shared that his three-decade journey toward veganism began with the realization that a vegan lifestyle benefits animals, nature, and human health alike.
Other speakers included Ravi Thapa, a traditional Thangka artist and the visionary behind Nepal Vegan Gallery; Abish Man Shakya, a multidisciplinary artist integrating diverse mediums to advocate for animal rights; and Sarita Rajopadhyaya, a celebrated actor who voiced her support for the cause.
Adding philosophical depth to the event, Raghu Aditya, author of Sakahar Tarkadhar, delivered a special talk on the ethics of veganism and the importance of aligning cultural and moral values with compassion for all beings.
“The motive of the event is to shine light on the suffering of non-human animals, highlight their pleas, and inspire people toward a compassionate lifestyle,” said Dipesh Shrestha, one of the organizers.
Now in its third edition, the Nepal Vegan Gallery continues to expand as a creative platform connecting art with empathy, envisioning a future of animal liberation, sustainability, and plant-based living.
