Sixteen Nepali children who had been trafficked to various cities in India have been rescued and reunited with their families in Madhes Province.
The children, originally from Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Rautahat, and Saptari districts, were rescued from Mumbai, Delhi, and Bihar with the support of the Indian charity ‘Kin India’ and in coordination with Indian police, according to Sanjiv Mahato, Madhes Province coordination officer of the National Child Rights Council (NCRC).
A formal handover ceremony was held in the presence of Ranjit Yadav, officiating secretary at the Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare of Madhes Province, where the rescued children were handed over to their respective families.
Officials said the rescue was made possible through cross-border cooperation and highlighted the need for stronger vigilance and preventive measures against child trafficking in the region.
