A locality in Bhimdatta Municipality-3 of Kanchanpur district has been officially named ‘Bipin Chowk’ in memory of Bipin Joshi, who was kidnapped and killed by Hamas during the Israel–Hamas conflict.
The naming ceremony took place this evening at Malikarjun Tole, where residents and community representatives gathered to pay tribute to the late Joshi. The event included the lighting of butter lamps in his memory.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ward Chairperson Gagansingh Dhami said that the decision was made to honor Bipin’s courage and sacrifice. “We had hoped for two years that Bipin would return home safely, but he made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his friends,” Dhami said.
He announced that an annual cricket tournament will be organized in Joshi’s honor, recognizing his contribution as a former player from the ward. “His photograph will also be displayed in the new ward office,” Dhami added.
Dhami further informed that, reflecting the sentiments of residents, the ward has named the area ‘Bipin Chowk’, and a proposal for formal approval will be tabled in the upcoming municipal executive meeting.
The lamp-lighting ceremony was attended by Bipin’s sister, Pushpa Joshi, along with community members, local leaders, and residents who expressed heartfelt tributes to the late youth.
