The construction of the bridge over the Doda River in Kanchanpur has reached 90 percent completion, according to the Road Division Office, Mahendranagar.
Information Officer Harish Prasad Joshi said that the bridge’s superstructure has been completed, with current work focused on building retaining walls and filling soil on both sides. The project, valued at Rs 247 million, is being constructed under a contract with Lumbini–Rajendra–Kumar–Shrestha JV.
Although the contract was signed on January 10, 2016 (Poush 26, 2072 BS) with a three-year completion target, delays from the contractor have extended the timeline. The new deadline is set for the end of Poush (January).
Joshi noted that only Rs 4 million has been allocated for the bridge in the current fiscal year, warning that an additional Rs 40 million will be needed to complete the project.
Local residents, who still risk their safety crossing the river, said the bridge will greatly improve transportation and connectivity for the people of Lajhadi, Shuklaphanta, and Krishnapur once completed.
