Jerry on Top, a Nepali feature film inspired by the grandeur of Mount Everest, has officially hit cinema halls across the country from today.
While the world’s highest peak has often been portrayed in documentaries and Hollywood productions, Jerry on Top stands out as one of Nepal’s few mainstream cinematic efforts to weave Everest into a full-length romantic and adventurous narrative.
Produced under Ananya Films Production, the two-hour and 55-minute film tells the story of love, ambition, and survival set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Himalayas.
Actor Anmol KC stars as a young mountaineer, while Jassita Gurung plays a trekking guide. To ensure authenticity, both actors underwent a month-long physical training regimen that included wall and rock climbing, according to director Suyog Gurung.
“The cast worked under the supervision of experienced Sherpa guides during the shoot to bring realism and respect to the mountaineering culture,” shared producer Saroj Neupane.
Neupane added that the production team spared no effort in showcasing Nepal’s towering Everest and the majestic beauty of the Khumbu region. “We aimed to create a film that truly makes Nepalis proud - visually, emotionally, and cinematically,” he said.
The film’s screenplay is written by Biswas Timilsina, with Hemraj BC as the story writer and Duleep Regmi handling the cinematography, capturing sweeping visuals of the Everest region.
Lead actor Anmol KC, who visited several theatres on the first day to gauge audience reactions, said filming in the Everest region was a formidable challenge. “It’s not easy to shoot there with limited local resources and tight budgets. But our team’s passion made it possible,” he shared.
KC hopes Jerry on Top will open doors for more Nepali filmmakers to explore stories rooted in the mountains and adventure genres.
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Bhuwan KC, Aanchal Sharma, Kedar Ghimire (Magne Buda), and Usha Khadgi.
