The BP Highway, which had remained obstructed for several days due to last week’s floods, has come into full operation from today following the construction of temporary diversions at 19 locations.
According to the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur, the construction of temporary roads along the damaged sections of the highway was expedited to restore transportation at the earliest. The office confirmed that the highway became fully operational after the newly opened tracks were tested on Friday evening.
By Friday, tracks had been cleared and tested from Chaukidanda in Namobuddha Municipality–6 to Mamti in Roshi Rural Municipality, covering all major flood-damaged stretches.
Office Chief and Senior Divisional Engineer Suman Yogesh informed that diversions were completed at Chaukidanda, Katunje–Ghumaune, Charsayabesi, Gimdibesi, Narke, Chiuribas, Boksikuna, Kaldhunga, Dalawbesi, and multiple sections in Piple and Mamti.
It may be noted that the Roshi River had washed away nearly four kilometers of road in the Roshi area during the floods, causing severe disruption to vehicular movement. In total, 17 sections of the highway had suffered damage due to the monsoon disaster.
Construction of the diversions had officially begun on Tuesday, and road engineers worked intensively to reopen the critical national route connecting the eastern and central regions of Nepal.
