A total of 285 people have lost their lives and 27 others remain missing due to various disaster incidents across the country since April 14, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that 44 people lost their lives and five went missing in disaster incidents today alone. The highest number of casualties was reported in Ilam, where 37 people died in landslides, while 50 districts have been affected nationwide, she informed.
According to the Authority, the highest number of deaths (86) since April 14 occurred due to snakebites, followed by 46 deaths from landslides and 45 from lightning strikes. Similarly, 30 people died in floods, six in heavy rainfall, 23 in fires, eight in storms, 22 in animal attacks, and 19 in other landslides.
The report also shows that 23 people went missing in floods, three in landslides, and one due to an animal attack.
In total, 4,065 disaster events have been recorded during the period, leaving 1,072 people injured and affecting 7,211 families, according to Mahat.
