The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned that monsoon activity across Nepal will intensify from Friday, October 3, due to a low-pressure system developing in the Bay of Bengal. The public has been urged to remain cautious during the Dashain festival as heavy rainfall is likely in several provinces.
Meteorologist Binu Maharjan said the monsoon trough, currently over Odisha, India, is gradually moving towards Nepal and will trigger widespread rainfall starting October 3. “Monsoon will remain active during Dashain this year,” Maharjan noted.
According to the Department’s special monsoon bulletin:
October 3: Light to moderate rain in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, with chances of heavy rain in some areas.
October 4: Light to moderate rain in most parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini, with heavy to very heavy rain in some places.
October 5: Widespread rainfall expected in eastern and central provinces, with very heavy rain possible in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki.
The Department has cautioned about possible landslides, floods, and soil erosion, which could disrupt road and air services. Travelers and residents in high-risk areas have been advised to stay updated with weather bulletins and take necessary precautions.
