Protests Erupt Across Indonesia Following the Death of a Delivery Rider

Massive protests broke out in multiple Indonesian cities on Friday after the death of a delivery rider during violent clashes between riot police and student demonstrators opposing lawmakers’ allowances.

In Surabaya, East Java, a man climbed atop a police water cannon truck as tensions escalated in the streets. Protesters hurled objects, including a helmet, at police forces while motorcycles were set ablaze amid the chaos.

In Medan, North Sumatra, demonstrators physically attacked police officers, further fueling unrest and highlighting the growing nationwide outrage.

In the capital city of Jakarta, protesters clashed with riot police near government buildings, demanding accountability and a review of lawmakers’ privileges.

The protests were sparked by the reported death of a delivery rider during earlier confrontations between police and student protesters. Demonstrators accuse the authorities of using excessive force and are calling for justice and broader political reforms.
